Housing

As an angora rabbit in its mature fleece needs a lot of room the hutch should be spacious (an area of 1 m2 is ideal). A wooden hutch should have a heigh of about 80 cm. This allows a good air circulation and sufficient light. A drawer for the faeces filled with an absorbant material (e.g. wood fibres) and a lot of straw is important to keep the rabbit clean and its wool at the same time- though the hutch must be cleaned every week.

A board fixed about 30 cm over the floor forces the idle angoras to jump and therefore supports the rabbits health. The bunnies love a small box where they can retire if they are frightened.

Feeding

I feed my bunnies as natural and varied as possible: grass (at the beginning only small amounts till the digestive system got used to it!), twigs of hazel or any fruit tree, fruits, vegetables, weeds (dandelion, bindweed and chickenweed are desired and good for the health!) and in addition to that always a sufficient amount of good hay.

In the evening I give each bunny a cup of cereal mixed with sunflower seed. Of course they have access to fresh water. In the winter I offer warm water to slow down the freezing.

If the weather is fine (and not too hot!) angoras love to be outdoors. It is important that they always find a shady place (pay attention to the moving sun!).
