Felting: Craft and Art

In 1999, I did the  felting course "Transparent Felting"  with Lene Nielsen. These three days were a revelation for me. Felt for clothing, extremely thin, elegant, flowing. The technique for making finest felt out of angora fiber.

The tutor Lene Nielsen newly offered a three-year-education in felting techniques. I was lucky to get a place in the very first class. Felting as a precise craft: making samples, calculations, laying out the fibers evenly and precisely and felting  the part to come out excactly as it was planned.

The three years flew by and my enthusiasm for felting even grew.

I'm fascinated about forms found in nature and try to convert them into felted objects. Mainly I work with fibers of our own animals: satin angora fiber and wool from Bundner Oberlander sheep.

This old breed nearly became extinct because there was no demand for their wool anymore: The Bundner Oberlander sheep supplies the wool for my felted objects. This wool is a perfect felting wool  and gives a firm felt keeping its shape.
